PaxGenBio has acquired Certificate of Free Sales of the molecular diagnostic kit for the simultaneous detection of 12 STI pathogens 

PaxGenBio (CEO Youngsuk Park), announced on April 4th that it has recently obtained certificate of the molecular diagnostic kit for the simultaneous detection of 12 types of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) from Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety.  

The molecular diagnostic kit simultaneously detects and identifies 12 STI pathogens with a single PCR test. It was developed based on PaxGenBio's patented technology, 'MPCR-ULFA (Multiplex PCR-Universal Lateral Flow Assay). The company explains that MPCR-ULFA is a new concept of molecular diagnostic method that combines the advantages of the multiplex PCR with the lateral flow assay which is a general method for immunodiagnostics. 

STIs are diseases transmitted from person to person through sexual contact. They are caused by various factors such as bacteria, virus, and parasite. Common sexually transmitted infections include gonorrhea, syphilis, and chlamydial infection. 

The PaxView® STI12 MPCR-ULFA Kit, which has been approved for export this time, detects and identifies 12 types of representative pathogens of sexually transmitted infections such as Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae , and Treponema pallidum simultaneously through multiplex PCR and DNA-DNA hybridization. 

An official from the company said, "We attended the MEDICA 2021 and MedLab 2022, and started to promote the PaxView Kit, and is well-received by overseas buyers." Also, "With this certificate as an opportunity, we will be able to acquire new customers not only in Europe but in the Middle East and Africa markets," he said.  

In addition, the official said, "We are in the process of CE-IVD with this kit.  We are also planning to obtain the approval of medical devices from the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety." 

PaxGenBio is a company specialized in the development and manufacturing of molecular diagnostic products. It introduced diagnostic products for sexually transmitted infections, human papillomavirus (HPV), and tuberculosis based on the patented MPCR-ULFA.

팍스젠바이오(대표 박영석)는 최근 식품의약품안전처로부터 성 매개감염 질환 12종 동시진단키트에 대한 수출용 허가를 획득했다고 4일 밝혔다.

이 제품은 한 번의 PCR 검사로 성 매개감염 질환(STI, Sexually Transmitted Infection) 12종을 동시에 진단할 수 있는 분자진단 키트다. 팍스젠바이오의 특허기술 'MPCR-ULFA' (multiplex PCR-universal lateral flow assay)를 기반으로 개발됐다. MPCR-ULFA 기술은 분자진단의 범용적 기법인 다중중합효소반응(Multiplex PCR) 기법과 면역진단의 범용적 기법인 면역크로마토크래피(Lateral Flow Assay) 기법의 장점만을 융합, 개발한 새로운 개념의 분자진단 기법이라는 게 업체 측 설명이다.

성 매개감염 질환은 사람과 사람 사이에서 성적인 접촉을 통해 전파되는 질환이다. 세균, 바이러스, 기생충 등 다양한 원인에 의해 발생할 수 있다. 흔한 성 매개감염 질환으로는 임질, 매독, 클라미디아 감염증 등이 있다.

이번 수출 허가를 받은 'PaxView® STI12 MPCR-ULFA Kit'는 클라미디아, 임균, 매독 등 대표적인 성 매개감염 질환 병원체 12종을 다중중합효소연쇄반응법(Multiplex Polymerase Chain Reaction)·교잡반응법(DNA-DNA Hybridization)으로 동시에 검출 진단할 수 있다.

업체 관계자는 "독일 국제의료기기 박람회(MEDICA 2021)와 두바이 국제 진단전문 전시회(MEDLAB 2022) 등에 참가해 팍스뷰 성 매개감염 질환 12종 동시진단키트의 홍보를 시작했다"며 "해외 바이어들에게 많은 호평을 받고 있다"고 했다. 이어 "이번 수출 허가를 계기로 유럽은 물론 중동 및 아프리카 시장의 신규 고객을 확보할 수 있게 됐다"고 말했다.

또 이 관계자는 "이 키트로 유럽 체외진단시약 인증(CE-IVD)을 진행 중"이라며 "식품의약품안전처의 정식 품목 허가도 추진할 계획"이라고 덧붙였다. 

한편 팍스젠바이오는 분자진단 제품 개발·제조·판매 전문기업이다. 특허 기술인 MPCR-ULFA 기술을 기반으로 한 성 매개감염 질환(STI), 자궁경부암 원인 바이러스(HPV), 결핵균(TB) 진단 제품을 선보였다.
